Clean your batteries
Always wear protective equipment when working around your batteries. Do not smoke while working on the batteries. Avoid skin contact with the battery or acid from the battery. Check to make sure that the ventilation caps are secured properly. Clean the battery, terminals and connections with a solution of baking soda and water using a wire brush. Make sure that the solution doesn't get into the battery in the process. When you are done, make sure that you rinse and let dry. Be aware that corrosion or acid from the battery will stain the ground.
